Helen, a wife and mother of adult children relocated to a small village in Cornwall from London, after finally deciding that she needed a divorce from her philandering husband. She buys a small cottage and starts to settle into her new life. Helen soon makes friends with the villagers, the local vicar, the local historian. Her best friend and producer comes down to the village to film her new TV series. Her ex wants her back home where she belongs but can Helen let the past go? or is she happy with her new life? The group felt it was predictable and contrived but a perfect read before the fire on a winter’s day, or relaxing by the pool on your holiday. It was scored 6/10 |

Set in C17 Amsterdam Nella, an18 yr old country girl arrives at the grand house of her new husband, the wealthy merchant and an unconsummated marriage is a problem. Johannes Brandt does not come to her at night, and his wedding gift is a cabinet house – an exquisitely diminutive replica of his own property – which he now invites Nella to fill with miniature furniture at his expense. What follows for Nella is a series of puzzles. How does the miniaturist she commissions to make, among other things, a tiny lute for her cabinet, know so much about her and the other members of the Brandt household? A story of betrayal, obsession, and retribution. A gruesome ending. The group felt it was gripping and rated it 7/10 |
