Nearly everyone really enjoyed this novel. Many became captivated and could not put it down. Comments included fantastic, excellant and page turner. The novel is based on a Greek island, off Crete called Spinalonga where lepers were banished to die. The background to this story was well researched and it was felt it was a truthful account of events surrounding the lives of those suffering from leprosy during the Second World War, including their families and friends. There is love and tragedy, betrayal and loyalty, deceit and courage. Leprosy may be the world's oldest known disease, but it is also one of its most misunderstood. We all learned a lot about leprosy and the stigma associated with the disease. Average score 9/10 |
