It was felt by all the group that The Kashmir Shawl is well written and all the characters are believable. Bringing two stories together is a Pashmina shawl which is produced from the Cashmir goat and is finest wool in the world. The history, culture and the environment have been well researched. One story is of three British women living in Srinagar, Kashmir during the second world war and the second is of a granddaughter and her quest to seek answers in relation to her ancestors. Some of the group found it a slow start with more intrigue of the past than present. The relationship between the women Myrtle, Nerys and Caroline was really enjoyed by the group as too was the personal relationships with the men in the novel. The background of the story is Kashmir and its changing fortunes, which are still unresolved over 60 years after Independence. An excellent read scoring 8.5
