The story begins with the release from Spinalonga of its inhabitants following a cure for leprosy. The tone is set from the opening lines. An absorbing tale of love, jealousy and forgiveness. The focus is on the characters hopes and dreams. An easy read but it lacked the substance and gripping reading of her previous novels. The prison scenes were perhaps the most vivid . Several Book Club members did not enjoy the book, found it boring and were disappointed. It scored 6.5 |
