A captivating story beautifully written starting in 1918 in Australia - a lighthouse keeper and his wife make a devastating choice that forever changes two worlds. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the wife Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby and Tom wants to report the man and baby immediately. Isabel has taken the tiny baby 'a gift from god', name her Lucy and claim her as their own. When Lucy is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them. Most people really enjoyed the book and it was scored 8. |
