Until… two words spoken by a woman from the back of a car say so much yet reveal so little.
As the car drives away Andee is left reeling, overwhelmed by shock, confusion, self-doubt and mounting trepidation.
30 years ago Penny Lawrence, only 14, disappeared and her family would have given anything to have her back. After a fruitless search for 27 years by countless detectives, including her late father, Penny’s older sister – Andee – accepted that she’s probably dead.
Penny shows up. Where has she been? Why did she run away? Why is she back? Using the names Michelle Cross, Kate Sylvander, and even Andee Lawrence, her name is not the only thing that she changed. Penny seems to be successful, but soon holes start to appear in her story.
Penny’s businesses rouse suspicions, and Andee knows that a family reunion is not what Penny had in mind. The appearance of a mysterious young man adds to the suspense. Andee is about to give up on her sister’s humanity but realises that, for the first time, Penny does indeed need her.
The author does a great job of understanding how past events can scar you mentally and how this can affect your life choices.
An enjoyable and thought-provoking read.
