This is a 1992 Norwegian novel meant for children by Jostein Gaarder. The story has one chapter for each day of Advent. Elisabet, whilst Christmas shopping with her mother, vanishes into thin air. Accompanied by angels, shepherds, kings and even a Roman governor, she is rushing back through time and space to Bethlehem, to be present at the birth of Christ. A boy called Joachim 50years later pieces together the story from a magic advent calendar and brings it to a conclusion. A story within a story of a young girl, travelling across land and through time, from Norway to Bethlehem, to the birth of Christ. The group did not think it was a children's book, an interesting concept, mysterious, a light read. scored 5.6 |
